Benefits of Being Religious | The Muslim Blog

You may be a Muslim, but in some aspects you are lacking. Sometimes you slack off. Or you just don’t like to be really “religious.” If that’s you, keep on reading, because this may open your eyes to a new range of possibilities. It’s like trying new food, really. If you haven’t tried a certain food, how can you judge what it’s going to be like without…tasting it?

In my opinion these are some great benefits of being a religious Muslim:

#1: Islam can make you feel much better mentally.

Many people feel confused or even depressed, because they don’t feel like they have any purpose. They may feel like their life is meaningless and they don’t know what their goals are. But Islam is your escape away from this. Imagine living a life where you know exactly who you are, what you are doing, why you are doing it and where you are going after you die. Imagine a life where you are not confused. You have a safe haven. It is Islam, the light that guides you everywhere. Don’t underestimate the power of being religious. It could be the reason you walk around this Earth happy and free of confusion.

#2: When you get into a pinch or a problem, you always have Allah to turn to.

This applies to any Muslim, but if you are religious it will be much easier and just praying to God that He helps you can actually help you feel much better about a situation. Whether it is the death of a family member or a job lost, asking Allah for help and keeping religion in mind can serve as a very valuable safety net that keeps you from losing hope. When life gets confusing, religion is your lifeboat, a benefit you may never fully understand unless you go there. This type of thing really helps you get up after being knocked down in life. That’s why I like to compare being religious with a safety net. The more religious you are, the stronger the net is.

#3: Being religious can help you achieve peace of mind.

Even for someone who has a stress-filled life, being religious can bring them into a state of tranquility. Many people who have listened to beautiful Qur’an recitations or stayed from Fajr to sunrise in a mosque may agree. Often, as your belief in God strengthens, the Qur’an becomes your rhythm, and the Prophet  becomes your true role model (not Bruce Lee), you feel this sense of peace and guidance. That is why you may feel sorry for Muslims who haven’t felt the amazing feeling of listening to and reading Qur’an, or the sense of fulfillment after completing nightly extra prayers. Try being more religious, and you will likely understand this peace of mind as you have never understood it before.
