Take a Pause And Look at Your Life | The Muslim Blog

Life can be very busy and in the middle of all of this, we can forget where we are. We are in the dunya life, a temporary life which is to be followed with a much longer one, involving heaven and hell. Eternal bliss and eternal pain. Here are a few points to help you see where you are right now:

1. Look around you. You might see things that are worth money. You might see some possessions, family members, etc. Know that many of these things will be gone when you die. Your money isn’t coming with you when you face Allah. All your toys and gadgets, all the things you bought, see them vanish like dust blown in a breeze. What is coming with you is something you cannot see: your deeds. Those prayers you prayed. That money you gave away. And unfortunately, that time you lied and that time you cheated. All those things you did against the command of Allah then didn’t repent and ask forgiveness from Allah. All your actions seem much more valuable when all your worldly possessions are worthless.

2. Do you have a clock near you? If so, look at the second hand. It keeps moving. Every time it moves one second is taken from your life. A second gone forever. Every tick on that clock could signify the last seconds of your life. Even if you see it improbable, the possibilities are infinite. And Allah (SWT) is the one who will decide when your life will end. Your life could end at any moment now. It could end today. Tomorrow. After tomorrow. Death could come from virtually anywhere. From this fact comes the idea of preparing to meet Allah now, because death could just be a doctor's visit away.

3. If you looked around you, you saw this life. That is all you see. But the reality is kind of like an iceberg. You see the top, but there is a whole lot more underwater. The fact is, after this life there is a next one, and there is a heaven and a hell, and your own actions right now could be the deciding factor in whether you will be painfully tortured or in bliss. Allah sent the Qur’an down, a warning for all of us. Muslims and non-Muslims read it. In those pages are warnings for us, from Allah.

Of course, in the face of all this, we realize the importance of putting in an honest effort to repent and get closer to Allah, and pay attention to the warnings He has given us. May Allah make us all from those who He forgives, ameen. The journey for a righteous life is often long and complex, but the motivation is so simple it can be described in two words: for Allah.
