Motivation to Avoid Sin | The Muslim Talk

So many times, you may find yourself sinning, but you can't get the motivation to stop. Read below to find the content to expose the reality of sining and give you the motivation you need to stop sin.

Motivational reasons to stop sin:

1. Remember that sins are recorded and will always be part of your past. If you do them, you can't reverse them.

Your sin is recorded by the angel on your left. Done. Recorded. And you can’t fix it. Even if you repent, you have not changed the fact that you have done this sin. it will be on your record, forever. And it is something that will not benefit you. It is something bad. If you are forgiven that means you have been forgiven - but that doesn’t change the fact that you did a sin, that you disobeyed Allah ﷻ using the same blessings He gave you, like health and power.

You may look back later and wish you hadn’t done the sin. But there’s still no escape from your past. If you do sin, you won’t be able to turn it around and remove this horrible thing from your record.

This does not mean that once you have done a sin, you can do nothing. Of course, you can repent and gain Allah's forgiveness (see this post). But if you feel tempted to do a sin, maybe think about how you won't be able to reverse the sin once it happens. It is a serious thing.

2. Sins are in many cases using the same blessings Allah  gave you to disobey Him.

When you sin, you are often using gifts from Allah  to do things that He forbade. For example, Allah ﷻ gave you this body and gave you these eyes, hands, nose, feet, legs, and the like. Allah ﷻ could have easily taken them from you, but He gave them to you. Does it really make sense that you should take a gift from Allah ﷻ and use it to do things that anger Him?

3. Remember that on the Day of Judgement, your actions will matter greatly - and these include your sins

The hellfire is a real threat - the threat of torture that nobody can imagine. And there is also heaven, true happiness. Imagine yourself in the Day of Judgement, when every single action you took in this life matters greatly.

Can you imagine being in that situation and regretting every single sin you do? Can you imagine your sin bringing you closer to the wrath of Allah? The risks are extremely high. Your deeds matter much more than your money, house, car, job, and the like. Can you really afford to do things now that you will regret very much later?

Guard yourselves against the Day on which no soul will be of help to another. No intercession will be accepted, no ransom taken, and no help will be given.

We must be aware of this frightening day, when your actions are what will stand for you. You cannot ransom God ﷻ, and nobody can help you. There is no escape from the reality of your actions. That is why it is very important that you choose your actions carefully now, while you are still living this life.

4. Sins can have devastating consequences for you - look at the hadiths and Qur'an verses about various sins

You may think that it was a small sin, but in reality it is a huge danger that asks for immediate repentance. It could have huge consequences

Look at hadiths that talk about various sins and their punishments, or Qur'an verses that demonstrate the seriousness of sin. In the video below, you can find one such hadith:

This post was simply intended to provide you with some motivation to realize the seriousness of sin and avoid sin. But I am in no way saying that if you sinned a lot in the past, you have no hope. Of course, you can repent and Allah can forgive your sins. Look at what the Qur'an itself says:

قُلْ يَا عِبَادِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا عَلَىٰ أَنفُسِهِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوا مِن رَّحْمَةِ اللَّهِ ۚ
إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ - 39:53

Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah . Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful."

https://quran.com/39/53 (Sahih international Translation)

But this does not mean that sin is a simple matter, or something that is trivial and negligible. Sins are serious. But when we turn to Allah, sincerely, we can repent from our sins and improve our lives.

Conditions of repentance (tawba) - according to Dar al-Ifta, the conditions of repentance are:

"- Regretting having committed the sin;
- Desisting from it because it is an act of disobedience and not because it harms one’s body and property;
- Resolving not to return to it again.
It is obligatory to repent immediately from a disobedience; delaying repentance is itself a sin that requires repentance.

If the sin is connected to the rights of another human being, it is necessary to return the rights to their owners or to clear oneself of the obligation owed to others."
