Why Islam Truly Means Equality

One of the truly beautiful things about Islam and the Qur'an is the powerful emphasis on equality. Islam is not for just rich people, or poor people, or white people or black people or males or females or people who speak a certain language or people who belong to a certain country. The Qur'an came down as a guide for humanity - all of it.

It really doesn't matter who you are - you can always accept the truth that was revealed in the Qur'an, and become a Muslim.

This is a verse from the 49th chapter of the Qur'an. It shows that high status in the eyes of God is acquired by piety, not by race or tribe.

O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.

(Qur'an 49:13)

Also, if we look at a quote from prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) farewell sermon, we can see the beautiful elimination of racism:

"All mankind is from Adam and Eve.
An Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab, nor does a non-Arab have any superiority over an Arab; a white has no superiority over a black, nor does a black have any superiority over a white; [none have superiority over another] except by piety and good action."
